What I Did:
Road rash from a bike crash. I slid nearly 20 feet and torn most of the skin from my upper thigh from knee to right hip.
How I Did It:
While biking at a pretty high speed, I hit a patch of loose sand in the corner of a swooping turn. Once my front wheel started drifting out from under me, there was no way to stay upright. It happened really fast and can't remember much more about it.
- Not sure I could have prevented the fall without sweeping the corner myself, but I'm much mor careful in cornering. I look ahead and assume less about the road surface. I also invested in some thicker shorts. Finally, I learned a lot about the treatment and care of road rash. It's one of the most painful injuries( like a burn) and getting help cleaning it out and knowing to use those moist bandages like second skin, was really important to heal.
