What I Did:

Road rash from a bike crash. I slid nearly 20 feet and torn most of the skin from my upper thigh from knee to right hip.

How I Did It:

While biking at a pretty high speed, I hit a patch of loose sand in the corner of a swooping turn. Once my front wheel started drifting out from under me, there was no way to stay upright. It happened really fast and can't remember much more about it.

Lessons Learned

  • Not sure I could have prevented the fall without sweeping the corner myself, but I'm much mor careful in cornering. I look ahead and assume less about the road surface. I also invested in some thicker shorts. Finally, I learned a lot about the treatment and care of road rash. It's one of the most painful injuries( like a burn) and getting help cleaning it out and knowing to use those moist bandages like second skin, was really important to heal.
