How Did It Happen?
Under jumped a jump on my dirt bike, I broke my talus and calcaneous bones on both legs, left being the worse off because my heel broke my talus in three places. This all happened on Jan/2009 and had surgery on both with pins placed all around. Three in left ankle and foot and one in my right talus.
How Was Your Recovery?
8 weeks in a cast on my right talus healed no problems, my foot on the left side healed great also, however the left ankle took a bone stimulator and almost 10 months only to heal two of the three fractures. The lateral fracture to the neck of the left talus hadn't improved over the last ten months so November 2009 we revised the pin inside my talus and grafted bone from my fibula to help fuse the bone. I've now been to my second appointment since and the radiologist is seeing no progress :(. It's been two months almost since the graft I am in a boot and on crutches not placing any weight on the foot, not looking good..
Tips and Tricks
- Don't know, I am trying to quit smoking altogether as I hear that can have a real negative impact on bone healing. I am really trying my hardest to wear the bone stim all day and night and not placing any wright on the bad leg.
How Long Was It Before You Returned to Sports?
I don't know if I will get to do everything I love to do (snowboarding,dirt biking, surfing, etc...)
