Only 4 Percent of Kids Wear Helmets Correctly
While the use of bike helmets is up from 18 percent in 1991 to nearly 73 percent today, less than 4 percent of kids have a properly fit helmet. According to researcher Gregory Parkinson, the three main problems are (1) the helmet rests too high, exposing the forehead, (2) the strap did not go around the ears in a "V" shape, and (3) the helmet slid forward or backward too easily. Learn more about selecting and fitting your helmet or read the results of the study published in the Journal, Pediatrics.
