July 29, 2003Possible Ban on Ephedra?The head of the Food and Drug Administration said the agency is considering a ban on ephedra, according to a recent CNN article. The herbal stimulant used in dietary supplements has been linked to a number of deaths and many other health complaints in the past, and the FDA has been warning the public of it's dangers for some time. In February, The FDA published an ephedra fact sheet warning of it's dangers. Wednesday's announcement is another step in the process of increasing public awareness.
