be passionate about health & fitness

The best way to 'get' a job in this amazing environment is to have a real passion for helping others and living the best life you can live. A lot of my success as an athletic trainer came because I really cared about my athletes and I also cared about my own health. The combination was a bit of "Do what I say" and a lot of "Do what I do." I believe this is the key to success in a any profession. Love it and share the love.

Learn and Learn some more

After getting my degree, I learned everything I could in my area of specialty (baseball). I read every journal, coaching manual and rehab article I could and then I talked to everyone that knew more than me and asked if they needed any help (I volunteered a lot). I think my persistence and curiosity were what got me in the door (got a job offer from a coach I respected), but once in the job, I kept studying to get better. I never sat back and relaxed, I now have a Masters in coaching and work with many high school and college kids one-on-one as a sports specialist. I couldn't be happier. So work hard, study and help others along the way. It will come back to help your career and reputation.
