What injury did you sustain?

It has been an ongoing and a non-constant pain and one I can't name. It started about 18 months ago and is located on my left, lower leg. It is just inside (on the right side) my shin bone. The pain is not constant, but flares up at night mostly, especially when I am laying down.

The pain has moved along the shin bone or muscle located along the shin bone. It is not a major muscle in the calf (I think). I can't tell if it is bone or muscle. It started high up the shin bone and later was low, toward the ankle. It is in the middle area along the shin bone now and had been for a while.

How did it happen?

The pain is from running. I've never jogged more than 5 miles in a work out or competed in anything larger than a 5K.

I stopped running for 9 weeks last spring and the pain came back. My feet aren't flat. I'm 44 years old and slender in size.

It doesn't hurt while running, only later after workout.

Tips and Tricks

  • I've quit running for 9 weeks; I stretch well and have good flexibility; I tried smaller strides and slower mile paces; I warm up slow and none of this has helped.
  • New, good running shoes didn't help, but plan to try new shoes again.

What was your recovery like?

No recovery. Chiropractor said I had fallen arches, but my feet aren't flat. He taped my feet once and it seemed to help.

How has your running changed since the injury?
