How Did It Happen?
I was dirt biking in deep sand and I tried to do a trick where you plant your foot down, hit the brakes, and whip your bike around 180 degrees to face the other direction. First off, the sand was too deep to pull off that trick, and second off, I had loosened my middle boot strap so my boot wasn't 100% tight. My foot stayed planted on the ground but my bike kicked me off, sent me flying, and then fell on top of my lower leg and my foot twisted within the boot. My upper leg was black and blue and my ankle swelled up like a small grapefruit.
How Was Your Recovery?
I iced it immediately but still went back out dirt biking the next day. I figured sports tape and three extra strength pain killers would do the trick and I barely felt any pain the next day. I find that I can walk on it no problem - I only feel pain when I try to move it left or right or if I walk fast. I finally went to the doctor two days ago (two weeks after I injured myself) and I apparently have actually fractured my foot. I told the doc I was tough and had no problems walking on it - he put his finger right on the little ball on the outside of my foot and I screamed. Now I'm on crutches and I'm not sure what else is going to happen - the appointment on Friday will tell me everything. Either way the doctor says I'm off my foot for at least six weeks and I'll need three months of physio. So much for this year's riding season...
Tips and Tricks
- Go to get it checked out immediately. Don't think you're tough and continue to walk on it.
