How Did It Happen?

I was doing some work on a ladder when it I lost my footing because of the uneven ground, I was about 15 foot up when I fell. I did try to land on my feet but I landed awkwardly and fell backwards. my tibia and fibula smashed down into the talus and almost pierced the skin. I didn't feel anything until I tried to stand... Bad move I went straight to my local a&e where the bones were pulled back into shape before any x rays were done.

Once into shape I was taken for several x rays and a ct scan before doctors decided to screw and plate my bone

How Was Your Recovery?

I was kept in hospital for 6 days in a temporary plaster cast. when I was finally sent home I was told not to put any weight on my foot for at least 3 months. I hired a power scooter(mobility scooter) so I could get about the boredom was terrible so I got a manual wheelchair instead and learned a few tricks at the same time as improving upper body strength and stamina.im not fully recovered yet i am still in the chair it's been 10 weeks I've got an appointment next week for X-rays to see if I can bear weight on the foot to build up the muscle.

Tips and Tricks

  • do not use ibuprofen as it's an inflammatory and will actually slow the healing process the bone needs to be inflamed to heal correctly
  • get a wheelchair to exercise it really helps
  • take up a hobby otherwise you'll go stir crazy
