If you are looking for an alternative to the high-priced energy bars, try Matisse & Jacks Energy Bar Mix.
This great idea is long overdue. Matisse and Jack created an energy bar mix, so you just add a couple of wet ingredients (such as yogurt and applesauce), mix and bake. The result is a dozen fresh-baked, less expensive bars that you can customize anyway you like. This product is a nice compromise between making your own bars from scratch and spending $1.50 a piece. These mixes are made with whole foods like oats, flax seed, nuts and dried fruits, with no refined flours. Their web site offers suggestions from consumers for altering the recipes. I tried both mixes. I was surprised how easy it was to have fresh energy bars in 40 minutes. The bars are tasty. I found the chocolate a bit too sweet, and next time I will follow the less sweet recipe, but overall, these bars rank high on my list. Similar to Harvest Bars, more moist & chewy than Clif bars.
Matisse & Jack's Homemade Energy Bar Mix consists of complex carbohydrates and 12g protein per serving (cranberry) and 7g ( chocolate chip) from non-GMO soy protein and from whole food sources like flaxseed, walnuts, and oats. Each bar also contains 600-1000 mg of omega-3 acids (from the natural source of flax). The mix comes in two flavors: Chocolate Amazon and Cranberry.
The price makes this a steal - One bag of the mix cost $4.99/ea
and makes 12 bars.
