An Italian manufacturer of sunglasses designed for athletes is making it's U.S. debut. Axley sportglasses have been available in Europe for years, but they are branching out to the U.S. market. I recently tested a pair of their women's specific "Kitty" glasses. Here's what I thought.
Kitty Tigre Model
The Kitty model is part of Axley's Energy Line, made for runners. The unique design of the Axley's is that they are weighted in the earpiece, rather than in the lens. This makes it much more comfortable during sports. The glasses put very little pressure on the bridge of the nose. I liked the fit and the feel, but once I began to sweat, the glasses had a tendency to slip. I would have preferred non-slip nose and ear pieces. The polycarbonate lenses offered good visibility for a variety of light conditions.For women who don't plan to use the Kitty glasses for hard core exercise, they might work well. They are ideal for women who want to remain stylish while being a bit active.
Axley does have another line - the Active Sport line, that offers adjustable temples / nose pieces and comes with various lens colors. While I didn't try that line, they may work better for hard core exercise such as running or cycling.
While I probably won't reach for the Kitty's before a bike race, I will likely use them watching from the sidelines.
