Definition: A ligament is a band of fibrous tissue that connects bone to bone or bone to cartilage and supports and strengthens joints.

The inguinal ligament is such a band of tissue that runs from the hip to the pubic bone in the groin. Specifically it attaches from the pubic tubercle on the pubic bone to the anterior superior iliac crest (on the pelvis).
