Background and Accomplishments:
A rarity as an African American swimmer in a predominantly white sport, the NC State English major is emerging as a strong contender in the 50m freestyle – he won silver in the event at the 2007 World Championships.
Family:
His father, Ron, who had hoped Jones would follow in his footsteps and become a basketball player, eventually came around on his son's swimming career before dying of lung cancer while Jones was in high school.
Other Interests:
The New Brunswick, New Jersey native (who was born in the Bronx) is an avid movie watcher, with favorite films such as Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Smoking Aces, The Departed, The Godfather and Scarface.
Pre-Race Ritual:
Before racing, Jones likes to listen to hip-hop (like T.I., Young Jeezy or Jay-Z) or rock (like Metallica) music.
