How Serious is an Abrasion?
A severe abrasion should be seen and abraded by a physician, but most minor abrasions can be cared for at home.

Signs of an abrasion that needs to be seen by a doctor include:

  • Deep cuts that may require stitches to heal properly.
  • Cuts that continue to bleed after 15 minutes of direct pressure
  • Cuts that extend deep into the skin
  • Cuts that have edges that pull apart
  • You are unsure of the need for stitches.
