If you bike, you need a helmet. Period. That said, what kind of helmet should you buy? There are vast numbers of brands, styles and sizes, and the choices can be overwhelming. Look for a helmet that has a Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) sticker inside. Then start trying them on to find one that fits you well. The following helmets are some of my favorites for fit and function.
1. Giro Gila
High Performance and competition-ready mountain bike helmet that works just as well on the road. Offers 23 vents, in mold shell, a snap mounted visor and Roc Loc 3 fit system. All that and it's ponytail compatible.
2. Giro Venus
Designed specifically for women, this is my personal choice. Offering a universal fit shell with adjustable Acu-Loc system, ponytail compatible, 18 vents, a detachable visor, and a narrow, sleek design. Just don’t force fit this helmet, because it is designed for those of us with smaller heads.
