Carbs, not Vitamins Key to Recovering from Marathons
While moderate exercise helps the immune system, we know that intense endurance exercise can temporarily weaken the immune system and increase risk of illness after an event. Athletes were hoping that loading up on vitamins may prevent this response, but a new study shows that taking vitamins before the event did nothing to boost immunity. The study suggests that the best way to keep the immune system strong is to maintain the body's stores of carbs during rigorous exercise.
