If you play a sport the requires quick accelerations, lots of starts and stops, and pivots,  you may find that you do a lot of sprint work, speed drills and power training during practice. But each of these drills only can do so much to improve acceleration. One training tips that can actually improve acceleration fairly reliably is using a weight sled.

Sprinting with a weighted sled is an excellent way to build functional acceleration for sports.  The weighted sled is a standard training tool for many amateur as well as professional sports teams. The key to using the sled properly is to maintain excellent sprint mechanics while dragging the sled. Once your form fails doing these drill, the benefit of the sled goes out the window. If you want to get the most out of the weight sled, start with very little drag and focus on your form. As you improve, you can add weight and still maintain perfect sprint mechanics.  If you use a sled during training, let us know if you got boost in your acceleration.
