Former Player Claims Red Sox Taught Players to Use Steroids
He is quoted as saying that a doctor was brought to a team meeting and, "He sat there for one hour and told us how to properly use steroids." When Merloni and other players questioned the organization, "...the response we got was 'Well, we know guys are taking it, so we want to make sure they're taking it the right way'..."
The Red Sox deny the claims. Other players have also denied that the event happened.
Whether Merloni's claims are true or not, it does raise some interesting questions. If players are taking steroids, should they at least be taught how to take them safely?
Merloni went on to sum it up this way:
"It was like teaching your teenage daughter about sex education," Merloni said. "The organization acknowledged that there were likely players using steroids and basically 'If you're gonna use them this is how you use them so you don't abuse them.'"What do you think? (Add your comments below)

To me, there’s a vast difference between accepting the realities of teens’ lives and educating them about safe sex (even though you may be hoping they don’t engage in it) and this. Steroid use/performance enhancing in sports is illegal. So if this is true, I suppose it’s good that they are accepting the realities of some players’ usage and educating them on how to stay as safe as can be when engaging in this practice. But on the other hand, and more importantly, it’s also essentially encouraging a forbidden practice.
