Did You Stop Exercising Over the Holiday?

If you are like me, you took a break from exercise during all the holiday festivities and are now regretting it. You may be wondering how long will it take to get back into shape and if you have a long road ahead to return to the shape you were in just a few weeks ago.

Losing fitness when you stop exercise is inevitable. It's called detraining or deconditioning. It's one of the 5 principles of conditioning -- the principle of use/disuse -- which refers to the 'use it or lose it' concept, but how quickly you lose fitness depends on several factors, including how fit you are, how long you have been exercising and on how long you stop.

Sometimes it's necessary to stop working out for a while, but there are things you can do to maintain what you have or get back to top shape quickly:
