Running on Sand or Grass May Increase Risk of Injury
Wednesday July 5, 2006
Although they offer softer surfaces, running on sand or grass may actually increase the risk of injuries in runners. Sports medicine experts report more sprains, strains and even tendonitis from running on uneven and inconsistent surfaces like the beach or grass.
In order to minimize the risk, runners should :
- wear the right shoes,
- replace running shoes about every 350-550 miles
- and follow the 10 Percent Rule of training.
