Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms Common in Injured Teens

According to a study published in Pediatrics, 30 percent of the adolescents who were treated in a Level One Trauma Center developed posttraumatic stress symptoms, 11 percent had depressive symptoms, and 17 percent reported high levels of alcohol use.
Parents should pay attention to signs of emotional distress such as anxiety, poor sleep, and depression and alert the family physician or a school counselor if they are concerned.
