Home-Based ACL Rehab Shows Better Outcomes
Friday December 30, 2005
A recent study concluded that that a home-based structured, minimally supervised rehab program was more effective in achieving acceptable knee range of motion in the first 3 months after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction than a standard physical therapy–based program.
The study, titled "Comparison of Home Versus Physical Therapy–Supervised Rehabilitation Programs After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction," was published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine. In this randomized clinical trial, the authors compared the efficacy of a home-based physical therapy program with that of a standard supervised physical therapy program during the first 3 months after ACL reconstruction.
