Exercise Is Recommended During Pregnancy

Women are encouraged to continue exercise, including strength training, during pregnancy. This was the message that James Pivarnik, Ph.D., FACSM, shared during this year's American College of Sports Medicine’s Health & Fitness Summit & Exposition.

Dr. Pivarnik said that hundreds of studies have shown physical activity to be not only safe, but beneficial, for expectant mothers. Exercise can help keep pregnancy weight gain in check, prevent gestational diabetes and pregnancy-induced hypertension, and possibly reduce length of labor.

Being fit can help you stay healthy during pregnancy, it can reduce the likelihood of complications during labor and actually make labor shorter. One of the biggest benefits is that it makes losing weight after you have the baby easier. Here is a list of great articles to help you get or stay fit:
